Rosacea

What is rosacea?

  • Rosacea is a type of skin condition that tends to the affect the face and commonly resembles the face blushing or little red bumps that look like acne. It can often flare up more than once and, over time, broken blood vessels might show through your skin, which can thicken and swell up

What causes rosacea?

  • It's not totally clear what causes rosacea but commonly cited reasons are that it runs in the family (genetics), issues with blood vessels, mites (demodex) or gut bacteria (although this hasn't been proven)

  • It's usually more common in woman and people with lighter skin, particulary those aged between 30 and 50

What concerns are normally associated with rosacea?

  • The most obvious is frequent blushing or flushing but other common issues tend to include red solid bumps or pus-filled pimples, visible blood vessels, eye irritation, burning, stinging, swelling and dryness
