The inspiration for the Skin Medicine cancer care skin clinic comes from a sad place, but I hope this clinic adds a little bit of normality and happiness to the people that come in.

There are very few people you meet in life that can affect your outlook and sense of direction in such dramatic ways. For me, there were two women who I knew and was blessed to have had in my life but, sadly, are no longer with us - both losing their battle with cancer and leaving us all far too soon.
​
Both women were powerhouses in their own right. They were fierce, independent and weren’t afraid to break barriers. They were women who took pride in their appearance and were very style conscious. And they were both the life of the party – always first on the dance floor and always last to leave!
​
They have inspired many key moments in my life and, for that reason, this clinic is a homage to them - it's a small way that I feel I can keep their memory alive.
​
I know that when cancer strikes it turns your world upside down and shatters everything around you. But I also know how valuable it can be having just a small bit of ‘me time’ that involves a treatment which isn’t chemo or radiotherapy. A treatment where they can lie back, relax and temporarily block the rest of the world out.
I have seen so many cancer patients in my optometry clinics over the years and a common theme always tends to be tiredness and the obvious lack of feeling like themselves.
